| Our joint beekeeping experience
began in 1997 when we moved to Tinton Falls, NJ and purchased our
first colony. Recently after our move, Ed and I had seen the Peter
Fonda movie, Ulee's Gold, which is about a beekeeper in Florida
who pulls his troubled family back together all the while he is
collecting tupelo honey from his bee hives. The next day Ed called
to say we would be picking up our first beehive from a beekeeper
in Vineland, NJ. |
| Since that first hive we have grown
to 80 hives and now offer an early season Jersey Fresh wildflower
honey called Spring Blossoms (April-June nectar), a mid-summer Jersey
Fresh wildflower honey called Summer Gardens (June- July nectar)
and a Jersey Fresh fall wildflower honey called Red Bank Raw (August
- October nectar). In addition we offer several Jersey Fresh varietal
honeys; cranberry and blueberry honey. And since we are always listening
to our customers we now carry clover, alfalfa, buckwheat, tupelo
and orange blossom honeys. In addition we are licensed from the
New Jersey Department of Agriculture to use the Jersey Fresh logo
on our New Jersey products. |
| It helps that Mary comes from a
family in which her father was a hobbyist and commercial beekeeper
in Maryland and Georgia. In addition while she was working at the
Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland,
Mary began working with bees. Mary carries on that tradition and
then some since she now runs the beeswax side of E&M Gold Beekeepers
which includes creating formal beeswax candles, beeswax figurine
candles, beeswax plaques and beeswax hand creams and lip balms. |
| We are active members of the New
Jersey Beekeepers Association (NJBA), the Central Jersey Beekeepers
Association (CJBA), the American Honey Producers Association (AHPA),
the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA), and the National
Honey Board (NHB). In addition we subscribe to industry journals,
Bee Culture and The American Beekeeping Journal. |
| We presently hold the following
positions in the Central Jersey Beekeepers Association: County Fair
Chairwoman, and Recertification Chairman. In addition we give educational
talks and presentations at schools, associations and county fairs.
